Route Surveys
A route survey is a survey conducted by an oversize load transportation expert to ensure that a given load can traverse a particular route. Route surveys should not be conducted by anyone who is not sufficiently experienced or qualified. The survey ensures all obstacles on the route are identified. The turn-by-turn directions also serve as a guide to the driver and escorts when they move the load along the route.
What is a Route Survey?
Route surveys consider a number of factors to establish a safe route for an oversize load including:
- Specific highways proposed
- Turn by turn instructions for the route
- Bridge heights and widths along the route
- Intersections with turning radius indicated for the load length
- How to bypass obstructions
- Other Overheads including tree branches, lights, railroad signs, etc.
- Elevated railway crossings if the trailer has a low clearance
- Clearances for power and communication cables

Our Clients
From aerospace to Dept of Defense movements, from industrial equipment to wind components, the Einstein team is trusted to deliver the highest quality route surveys for some of the most sensitive and valuable cargo that travels our nation's highways. Several of the nation's largest heavy haul carriers entrust their surveys to Einstein.
Einstein's professionalism and devotion to quality are essential to our reputation and our 100% safety record.
Overheight loads are among the most difficult to transport. Even following the route approved by the state does not speak to the presence of trees, wires, and low overheads. It is better to know for certain what is on the route. Occasionally, there are errors on state permits where loads are unintentionally routed under low bridges. A bridge strike, even when traveling on route, is a very costly mistake. Hopefully, the lead escort with the high pole will warn the driver of the load about the bridge, but why not know what is coming in advance?
A route survey will help to eliminate surprises and ensure the route is safe to travel.
